Cosmetics Q & A

What is cosmetic dentistry?

Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your smile and your teeth. If you’re unhappy with the way your teeth look, your Nukoa dentist may recommend a cosmetic dentistry service, particularly if you have:

  • Missing teeth
  • Cracked or broken teeth
  • Stained or discolored teeth
  • Misshapen, misaligned, or crooked teeth

What kinds of cosmetic dentistry procedures are there?

Some of the cosmetic treatment options are:

  • Veneers: thin layers of porcelain that cover the front surface of your teeth
  • Bridges: artificial teeth that fill gaps between your natural teeth
  • Zoom Teeth Whitening: A simple and effective treatment to brighten and whiten your teeth
  • Crowns: tooth-shaped caps that cover cracked or chipped teeth
  • Teeth whitening: removes stains and discoloration
  • Dental implants: artificial tooth roots that hold dental prosthetics
  • Invisalign®: uses a series of custom-made aligners to straighten and realign your teeth

What is ZOOM Teeth Whitening?

Discoloration is a common side effect of drinking coffee, eating, smoking, or even drinking tea or red wine. ZOOM teeth whitening is a simple and effective procedure used to break down stain substances around the teeth. The procedure is very simple and takes about one hour to complete. Our dentists will assess your dental health and help consult any patient that wants to participate in the procedure. Once confirmed, the procedure starts by preparing the lip and gums. The dentist or dental staff then applies the Zoom hydrogen peroxide whitening gel to the teeth. Next, the dentist will activate the gel using the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp, and light that activates the hydrogen peroxide based gel to accelerate the decomposition of the discolored substances. After about 15 minutes of relaxation, you will be smiling brighter than before!

What are veneers?

Veneers are thin layers of porcelain or composite resin that are permanently fixed to the front surface of your teeth. Veneers are typically used for cosmetic reasons, to improve the appearance of the teeth, but they can also close gaps in between teeth.

Veneers may be a valuable treatment option to help with speaking and chewing food. They also offer more strength and stability.

Veneers work particularly well for teeth that are worn down, chipped, or discolored, and you can get multiple veneers at the same time, if necessary.

What is the Chao Pinhole Surgical TechniqueⓇ?

The Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique is a minimally invasive dental procedure for treating gum recession. It’s scalpel- and suture-free, so it’s becoming increasingly popular.

Your Nukoa dentist uses healthy gum tissue that’s already at the treatment site instead of performing a graft. With specialized instruments, they reposition this healthy tissue through tiny openings in the gums.

The benefits to this noninvasive procedure include:

  • Faster recovery time
  • Natural-looking results
  • Less discomfort after treatment
  • No need for scalpels and invasive surgical tools

Gum recession can be caused by excessively grinding your teeth, the natural aging process, and other factors. If your gums have receded, the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique is a widely successful treatment option.

Dr. Hernandez and Dr. Urrego-Torres provide a wealth of cosmetic dentistry procedures and will work to ensure that you’re happy with your smile.
